Poetry lovers are invited to enjoy an evening of storytelling exploring the life and times of English poet John Clare at the Ancient Technology Centre (ATC) in Cranborne Chase, Dorset.

‘On Common Ground’ will feature stories, songs and music celebrating the life and times of John Clare, performed by wordsmith Chris Wood and leading folk musician Hugh Lupton.

The evening will explore folk traditions of the 18th century, evoking landscape and class structure, using narrative punctuated by excerpts from Clare’s poetry, as well as ballads from the same era. Each performance will weave together to create a tale of love, loss and a gradual descent into madness.

The event is being held on Saturday 20th September at 7.30pm in ATC’s Earthhouse, an impressive structure created using a combination of Iron Age roundhouse evidence and a Neolithic wood henge style.

With its rustic feel and open fire, the venue provides a magical and inspiring environment for an evening of storytelling and music.

Tickets are priced at £8.50 for adults and £5.50 for under-16s. The event is not suitable for under-12s.

Tickets are available from: East Dorset Heritage Trust, Allendale House, Hanham Road, Wimborne Minster, Dorset, BH21 1AS or by telephoning: 01202 888992.
