Project O – literally a lifeline
ICM has supported an 18-strong group from Bournemouth Community Church (BCC) which recently visited South Africa to work with Project O, a charity dedicated to helping children affected by AIDS.
Described as ‘AIDS capital of the world’, Project O’s work is in demand. Based on the east coast in Durban, the charity helps children who have HIV/AIDS or who have been affected by the disease – the majority of whom are orphans.
BCC Minister Roger Constantine led the mission. He visited the charity last year during a sabbatical, and has pledged his support – and that of the church’s – ever since.
Over the past few months, members of the BCC group have been raising sponsorship to fund the trip and tools, such as a quadbike, for the charity.
Each member of the team brought different skills to the mission – Simon Dallimore, a Commercial Manager for HSBC Bank, offered financial and planning experience. He, along with his colleague Andy Lear, took part in a sponsored day of golf to raise money for the trip.
Simon’s son, Nathan, also raised money through a sponsored event. He and his friend Matthew recently had their heads shaved in exchange for funding for the expedition.
