A training session with Ben Milward

2:39pm GMT, Thursday, 17 April 2008

The ICM Communications team recently joined Ben Milward at TonyMoto, a motocross racing track in Winchester, where Ben gave three young boys a lesson in how to ride safely and competitively.

After a warm-up, Ben took the boys out on the track to practise some moves. The main aim of the lesson is to learn new skills and have fun, although safety is always at the forefront of each session.

Ben explained why he decided to start teaching: “For me personally, any opportunity to spend time on the bike will help me get better at the sport. But I mainly simply enjoy seeing the kids improve and progress, and I enjoy spending time with them having fun.”

He also offered reassurance about how safe the sport really is: “It’s as dangerous as you make it – like horse riding or football, you can hurt yourself doing anything, there are certain risks with whatever sport you do.”

Aside from regular teaching sessions, Ben races in professional competitions and his 2008 career is being sponsored by Dr Alistair Somerville Ford, Chairman of ICM. He has already made a good start to this year’s racing season, and has come first and fourth in a national race series – despite snowy weather and technical difficulties!
