Developments underway at Avon Heath Country Park

Work will soon begin to enhance the visitor facilities at Avon Heath Country Park.

Major developments are currently underway at Avon Heath Country Park in Dorset to enhance its visitor facilities.

The Park comprises a 600-acre area of heathland, with a range of walks and cycle pathways. A children’s play area and dedicated Visitor Centre exist at the main entrance to the site.

Rangers at the Park have been give permission to extend the current Visitor Centre and re-vamp the play area. Carol Dawkins, Assistant Ranger at Avon Heath, explained: “This extension will give us a lot more space to work within and will allow the creation of more interpretation areas, which we can use to explain to children all about the heathland and what a tough environment it is.

“Part of our future plan is to ultimately create a dedicated classroom area where we can educate – and entertain – the many groups of children who visit the Park. These developments will definitely make a difference.”

The extension of the Visitor Centre will begin in the next few weeks, and the new play area will be opening at the site shortly.
